There is no stopping Australia in this World Cup. They continue to demolish teams with utmost ease. In what can be termed as a complete mismatch, Australia defeated New Zealand by whopping 215 runs. Agreed, there was no Shane Bond and Jacob Oram playing for New Zealand, still victory of over 200 run is not a joke especially in one-day cricket.
Opting to bat first, Australia lost the wicket of Adam Gilchrist quite early but in-form Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting destroyed the Kiwi bowling. Such was the dominance of these two players that Australia reached the two hundreds in only 27 overs.
Though, New Zealand fought back by taking three wickets quickly but Shane Watson played a superb knock in the end to help Australia post a total of 348 runs.
Replying to the mammoth total, except Peter Fulton, no one in the Kiwi lineup could withstand pace of Shaun Tait and spin of Bradd Hogg. They were all out for 133 runs in 26 overs.
If Australia continues to play in the same vein, there is no doubt in my mind that they will easily win the World cup without being beaten in the whole campaign.
